LiteGait MX Battery Charging & Troubleshooting
LiteGait MX Battery Charging
This article explains how to properly charge the LiteGait MX battery system, interpret charger indicators, recognize low‑battery conditions, and resolve common charging‑related issues. Following these guidelines helps ensure safe operation and maximizes battery lifespan.
System Overview
LiteGait MX units are powered by an internal 24‑volt battery pack. The battery must be charged on a consistent weekly schedule, at least once a week, to maintain reliable performance. Infrequent or improper charging can shorten battery life and increase the risk of the unit shutting down during use.
Charging Requirements
- Charge the LiteGait MX at least once per week
- Allow 6–8 hours or overnight for a full recharge
- Actual charging time depends on battery condition and remaining charge level at the start of charging
Charging Procedure
Follow the steps below when charging LiteGait MX models:
- Insert the charger connector into the charging port located at the top of the actuator:

- Plug the charger into a suitable 110V wall outlet
- Leave the unit connected for the full recommended charge duration
- Once charging is complete, unplug the charger from both the wall outlet and the LiteGait unit
Important:
Leaving the charger attached to the LiteGait while disconnected from the wall outlet can reduce battery life. Always disconnect from both ends after charging is complete.
Low Battery Indicator and Alarm
The LiteGait MX emits an audible alert when the battery reaches a critically low charge level.
- When the alarm sounds, the unit can only lift or lower approximately 2–3 more times
- If operation continues, the unit will shut off automatically
- The battery should be recharged before it reaches a level that could prevent safely lowering a patient
Charger Indicator Lights
The charger uses an LED indicator to show charging status:
- Green LED
- Charger is plugged into the wall but not connected to the LiteGait
- OR battery is fully charged while connected

- Red LED
- Battery is actively charging while connected to the LiteGait

- Battery is actively charging while connected to the LiteGait
Electrical Connections During Charging
- During normal operation, the battery cable and hand switch cable should remain connected
- During charging:
- Connect the charger cable
- Do not operate the LiteGait
- All plugs and connectors must be fully seated and secure to ensure proper charging and operation

Troubleshooting
Audible Alarm Sounds During Use
Cause:
Battery charge has fallen to a critical level.
Impact:
Only limited lift/lower cycles remain before shutdown.
Action:
- Stop use as soon as it is safe
- Recharge the unit promptly after use
- Avoid allowing the battery to deplete to the point where patient lowering is not possible
Unit Will Not Lift or Shuts Off
Cause:
Battery charge is below the minimum operating threshold.
Action:
- Recharge the LiteGait before further use
- Follow the weekly charging schedule to prevent recurrence
Charger LED Remains Green When Charging Is Expected
Cause:
The charger is connected to the wall outlet but not to the LiteGait unit.
Action:
- Verify the charger cable is fully inserted into the LiteGait charging port
- Confirm the LED changes from green to red, indicating active charging
Battery Does Not Hold a Charge
Cause:
The charger was left connected to the LiteGait while unplugged from the wall outlet.
Impact:
This condition shortens overall battery lifespan.
Action:
- Always disconnect the charger from both the wall outlet and the LiteGait after charging
Charging Appears Intermittent
Cause:
Loose or partially seated electrical connections.
Action:
- Inspect all cables and connectors
- Ensure all plugs are fully inserted and secure before charging or operation
