GaitKeeper GK1800T / GK2000T Cleaning and Lubrication Instructions

This article explains the recommended cleaning schedule and silicone lubrication procedure for GaitKeeper GK1800T and GK2000T treadmills.

Prerequisites

  • Clean, soft cloth (water-dampened for weekly wipe-down)

  • Clean towel/terrycloth towel for debris removal

  • True Fitness liquid silicone (single-application packet, as applicable)

  • Power outlet access (you will unplug the treadmill during the lubrication procedure)

Maintenance Schedule

  • Daily: Wipe perspiration from the control console and GaitKeeper surfaces after use.

  • Weekly: Wipe down the GaitKeeper once a week with a water-dampened, soft cloth. Avoid getting excessive moisture between the edge of the overlay panel and the console, which could create an electrical hazard or cause electronics failure.

    • Important: Do not clean or wipe under the running belt.

  • Monthly: Clean dust and dirt that may accumulate under and behind the GaitKeeper. Small rubber particles from walking shoes can accumulate alongside the belt and behind the unit.

Procedure: Silicone Lubrication

  1. Step 1: Determine whether lubrication is needed (Push Off Test)

    • Push Off Test: Use the steps below to verify belt/deck lubrication.
      • Place the machine in Calibration mode.
        • To calibrate, turn the power on to the treadmill and insert the safety key. When the power is on, remove the safety key and the display will show TRUE and four dashed in the window under it. Press and hold the incline and decline buttons. While holding these two buttons reattach the safety key. The display will say to press 'Start' to begin auto calibration.
        • Elevate to the highest elevation and set speed to 0. Stand on the tread belt near the console and push off with moderate force. The elevation, your weight, and the push should carry you at least ¾ of the way toward the end of the machine. If you do not travel at least ¾ of the deck length, lubricate the belt using True Fitness liquid silicone (complete Step 2 before applying lubricant). After lubricating, repeat the Push Off Test to verify proper lubrication.
  2. Step 2: Power down and clean the deck and belt underside
    • Unplug the treadmill from the wall. Ensure the deck and underside of the walking belt are clean and free of foreign material. Use a clean cloth towel to remove any debris from the deck and the underside of the belt.
  3. Step 3: Apply silicone lubricant
    1. Confirm the deck and underside of the walking belt are clean and free of debris.
    2. Cut the corner of the single-application lube packet.
    3. Lift the edge of the running belt to expose the deck surface.
    4. Apply silicone lubricant generously to the deck surface and spread evenly to cover the surface.
    5. Repeat from the other side to ensure coverage to the center of the deck.
    6. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet and power up the unit.
    7. Walk at low speed to spread the lubricant evenly between the belt and deck. The machine is ready for use.

Notes & Troubleshooting

  • Excessive friction / belt feels slow: Perform the Push Off Test; lubricate if needed and retest.

  • Uneven lubrication symptoms: Ensure you applied lubricant from both sides and walked at low speed to distribute it.
  • Debris buildup persists: Increase monthly cleaning frequency based on usage and environment.
  • Electrical concern or moisture near console: Power down/unplug and allow to dry fully before use. Avoid liquid ingress during weekly cleaning.
